Welcome to the 53rd Assembly District
Democratic Congress!

The 53rd AD Democratic Congress is an independent organization chartered by the California Democratic Party. We serve the South Bay communities of West LA, Mar Vista, Venice, Marina Del Rey, Playa Del Rey, El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, and Torrance. Our members are registered Democrats who are interested and active in politics. Our mission is to ensure that political organization takes place on the precinct level in the 53rd AD, to engage in political activity on behalf of endorsed Democratic Party candidates, and to act as a forum for local Democratic Clubs. Membership meetings are held on the third Thursday of every other month.

Notice of Special June Meeting - Location Change

We will be meeting this Thursday, June 9 at Marmalade Cafe in El Segundo to discuss: 1.  The pros and cons of re-chartering through the County Democratic Party; 2.redistricting and 3. new templates available to the clubs for use.

Dinner will begin at 6 p.m., the meeting will start at 6:45.  We are in the private room so ask for the reservation under 53rd ADDC.

May Meeting Cancelled


This month's meeting of the 53rd AD is cancelled out of respect for the enormous amount of time and energy that we have all put into the 36th CD race.
 
We will post details here regarding the June meeting in the near future.

53rd ADDC Convention Dinner Sacramento 4/30/2011

We will all be up in Sacramento for the State Convention from 4/29 through 5/1 this year.  Join the 53rd ADDC supper at Cafeteria 15L.  It is a casual chic location with American style comfort food.  Prix fixe is $48, including wine, with a no host bar available for other beverages. Sign up and prepay strongly recommended for this limited space "place to be" for the 53rd. Just click the "Payments" button above to make your payment via Act Blue.

Note from Jane Harman on Constituent Services


Dear Friends,

As you may have heard, I will be resigning my seat in Congress at the end of this month.  However, I want to assure you that the Washington, DC, the El Segundo and Wilmington offices will remain open and the dedicated staff available to you for the purpose of providing constituent services until my successor takes office. 

Please do not hesitate to reach out to the staff at the addresses below.  Serving the people of the 36th District for 17 years has been an honor without equal.

Business Meeting in March

As usual, the alternating month meeting was an organizational business meeting of officers;  member attendance optional.

Membership Meeting on February 17, 2011 at Hennessey's

A full membership meeting of the 53rd ADDC was held at Hennessey's Manhattan Beach on February 17, 2011. Members celebrated the victory of Ted Lieu for State Senate. Janice Hahn spoke briefly about her candidacy for Congress (36th district) and updated us on Los Angeles city news. Finally, members discussed strategic issues facing us over the next six months. Minutes will be available at the April membership meeting (4/21/11).

South Bay Democratic Clubs New Year Party & DAC Fundraiser


Thanks to all who attended the Democratic New Year party to celebrate our "Blue Tide" in California elections. Over $2,500 was raised for the Democratic Action Center in Torrance.

New Delegates & Officers for the 53rd AD

Based on caucus results from January 8, 2011, our newly elected delegates to the CDP are:  Rochelle Schneider, Susan Truax, Diane Wallace, Marta Evry, Karla Salazar, Gabrielle Gold, Tony Hale, Jim Kennedy, Al Lay, Lee Fink, Varo Asorian, and Tony Salvaggio. Tony Hale was also elected as our representative to the Executive Board.

Our new officers for the 53rd ADDC are:  Chair: Rochelle Schneider; Vice Chair: Jim Kennedy; Secretary: Kathryn Campbell; Controller: Scott Houston. Robin Doyno was elected Member-at-Large.

Congratulations to all of our winners, and a huge thank-you for the extraordinary level of participation in this year's caucus!
